From the President's Office

Dear Members, Neighbors, and Friends,Happy October! I would like to begin the Fall season by thanking all of you who came out to attend our First Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser with us, and for celebrating our first year together. We have so much to celebrate, and at the same time, we have much to accomplish. Our journey together has only just begun, and we are just getting started!

As we welcome Autumn, we also take the time to pause and reflect on our progress, as well as to focus on our future, and importantly, extend our heartfelt thanks to our community business partners, our State legislators, and our community of members, who working together with us, make it all happen.

As I always say – together, we are stronger!

We have much to look forward to in October, from the roll out of programming to new and exciting events and opportunities, we look forward to the Fall season with you, our valued members.

As always, thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your continued support, and for your tireless efforts in helping to advance Delaware’s collective economic footprint in a way that levels the playing field for all.

Sincerely,
Ayanna Khan
Founder, President & CEO

First Anniversary Sold Out Gala and Fundraiser

We celebrated our First Anniversary on September 17th at the Christiana Hilton. Due to overwhelming support for the DEBCC among the public, Delaware state officials, and local area businesses, the event sold out quickly to maximum capacity.

Numerous Delaware dignitaries, business leaders and elected officials were on hand to lend their voice and their support, including Governor Carney, Dr. Bethany Hall-Long, Matthew Meyer, Auditor Kathy McGuiness. Our event served to help fund operations and programing, which is currently being rolled out statewide, as both membership and programs continue to grow rapidly.

One of our key roles in serving Delaware’s business community, is to level the playing field for minority-owned businesses, ensure equity, and ultimately advance Delaware’s collective economic footprint. In doing so, we endeavor to serve as a support eco-system for all area businesses, and support for this, and other events, make those things possible.

The evening was nothing short of amazing. We so appreciate everyone’s support for our community, and our sincerest thanks to everyone for coming out and celebrating with us. Thanks to Governor Carney, Dr. Bethany Hall-Long, Matthew Meyer, Auditor Kathy McGuiness, and all the other state officials for being in attendance. Your support means more to us than is possible to put into words. At the DEBCC, our mantra is that we are ‘Stronger Together’, and our strength was on display big time that evening!

Additionally, there were four Award Honorees:  Eunice LaFate - Member of the Year, Delaware Business Times - Sponsor of the Year, Helping One More Entrepreneur (H.O.M.E.) - In-Kind Sponsor of the Year, and Michelle Taylor/United Way of Delaware - Supporter of the Year.

The keynote address was given by Markevis Gideon of Nerdit Now, who gave an inspiring speech.

We once again want to thank everyone involved for making the past year a success, from our advisory board to our staff, our business community to our elected officials to our sponsors, and everyone along the way who has contributed to make the past year happen. As we continue to roll out programing, we have big things in store for the coming year, and we will look forward to celebrating our outcomes and another milestone in our second year.
